You can expect to see more officers out on the road in Sparks this week.
The Sparks Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol started an intersection enforcement effort this weekend that goes until this Saturday.
The goal is to cut down on people running yellow and red lights.
"The law indicates that once the light turns yellow, you are to decrease your speed and the violation is that there's a duty to decrease your speed. If you accelerate to get through the yellow light, even if you get into the intersection before the light turns red, that's still a violation," says Sgt. Jeanmarie Walsh.
The fine for speeding through a yellow light is $150.
It's the same for a red light - you'll also get 4 points on your driving record.
