Police Identify Suspect Killed by Trash Compactor

Posted: Updated:

Reno police have identified a man they say was crushed to death by a trash compactor while running from law enforcement yesterday morning.

Municipal Court Marshals saw 37-year-old Rodney Wright on his bike around 11am Wednesday at First and Virginia Streets.

He was wanted for a misdemeanor, and when marshals tried to stop him, Wright sped away, crashed his bike and then ran.

Less than 30 minutes later an employee at a residential complex at First and Ralston told investigators someone had been found in the building's trash compactor.

Police found Wright inside.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital after being treated on scene.

Police believe Wright triggered the compactor's sensor when he climbed into it to hide - and was crushed.

Investigators would like to talk to anyone who may have seen the incident.
