Reno Police: Suspect on Run Killed By Trash Compactor

Posted: Updated:

Reno Police are investigating after a suspect they were looking for on Wednesday was killed by a trash compactor.

Police tell Channel 2 News that around 11 a.m., Municipal Court Justices saw an unidentified man wanted for a misdemeanor warrant on a bike at First and Virginia streets.

Police say the suspect then took off and soon crashed the bike before running off. They say he was later found in the trash compactor in the area of First and Ralston streets.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe he was crushed by the compactor when he climbed in to hide. They say the automatic compactor is triggered by a remote sensor after it fills up. So, they say it's possible he triggered it when he climbed in.
