Kristen Remington Tours White House

Posted: Updated:

Besides holding an exclusive one-on-one interview with President Obama, Kristen Remington also got a tour of The White House.

--

"The most important piece of history in the White House. It was brought to the White House when it opened in 1800," says curator Bill Allman.

Our tour begins in the East Room - the largest room in the house.

It's where the painting of our founding father hangs above White House gatherings and celebrations.

Like the paintings - meticulous care is given to all American artifacts that adorn three parlors on the second floor - the Green Room - which showcases decor of the early 1900's. The most original pieces sit in the Blue Room however, where the White House Christmas tree stands every year. And in the Red Room - (a favorite among First Ladies) "there are a lot of ceramics decorated with people who American's found as heroes - George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Marquis de Lafayette."

The Estate Dining Room is where you'll find the man - responsible for Nevada's statehood. This is also where 100+ person state dinners take place. "The room was originally about a third smaller and there was a large staircase that went to the private quarters at the north end of the room."

And whether you knew it or not, you've likely been inside the White House when the president has an important message for Americans. "This is the grand foyer, one of the most recognizable places in the White House... you've seen the red carpet. Whenever the President gets ready to address the nation in a press conference... this is the route he takes."

In the same entry, you'll spot President Clinton's likeness - hanging above a Steinway piano built specifically for the White House.

Across the way, the newest addition.

President Bush's portrait was carefully put on display just this morning.

So, what about the president's living quarters? asked - they're off limits.

The access we had today, however, was rare. We set up our interviews on the south lawn - which few reporters ever get to do.

And that's where we got to meet one of the president's family members - the family dog, Bo.

To see the Portuguese Water Dog, I've posted a picture on my Facebook page - just "like" KTVN Kristen Remington.

And for my entire interview with the president head to our website ktvn.com.

Coming up Tuesday at 5pm, I'll share my south lawn interviews with you... I spoke with Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano about how safe we are as a country - and as a state.
