The Regional Transportation Commission's Moana Lane widening project is now officially underway through Friday.
Construction takes place from 7am to 7pm on Moana Lane from Baker Lane to the 395 freeway ramps.
Some work will temporarily close the outside eastbound lane. And next week, Moana will be down to one lane in each direction with turn lanes.
RTC says the widening project is increasing Moana from 4 to 6 lanes to help speed up traffic and ease congestion.
RTC says the project is expected to help create 215 jobs directly - and indirectly - and this project is definitely needed. "It's important because there are two casino resort properties on Virginia Street and this is one of the ways you can get to these properties and there's future development on Virginia Street so we're anticipating out into the future as the economy returns," says project manager Doug Maloy.
