Tucson took a 5-0 first-inning lead Saturday night, but the Aces scored the game's next 12 runs en route to a 12-9 victory over the Padres at Kino Stadium.
The Padres brought eight men to the plate in the first inning, pushing across five runs off Aces starter Joe Martinez to take a commanding lead. But Reno would fire back with four in the third and five in the fifth to take a lead it wouldn't let slip away.
Reno has now won six straight and 11 of its last 12 games. The Aces have begun this 11-game road trip with a 6-1 record.
Martinez (5-3) settled in after the first and didn't allow a run over his final five frames. Martinez earned his fifth-straight victory, scattering 10 hits with five strikeouts and one base on balls. After his exit, Taylor Sinclair and Chris Jakubauskas worked an inning apiece, before Jonathan Albaladejo came on and slammed the door in the ninth for his 10th save.
The loss fell to Tucson starter Anthony Reyes (0-3), who surrendered seven runs on 10 hits through four innings of work.
In an 18-hit Aces attack, the first five batters in the Reno lineup all registered a multi-hit effort, including a four-hit game for Ryan Wheeler. Stephen Drew finished 2-for-5 with a two-run home run as he continues his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment with Reno. The Aces recorded nine extra-base hits, including two triples by Jake Elmore and a homer for Cole Gillespie. Elmore stretched his hitting streak to a career-best 19 games, the second-longest stretch in franchise history.
The Aces go for the series sweep on Sunday night at Kino Stadium. Arizona-native RHP Charles Brewer (3-4, 5.61 ERA) gets the nod for the Aces, while Tucson is set to counter with RHP Jorge Reyes (4-6, 4.58 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM or by visiting RenoAces.com.
