Term limits are the reason so many seats are open on the Reno City Council this cycle. Four seats are open and next cycle, just two years from now the other two seats and the Mayor will be out because of term limits. Some say term limits are limiting the power of the voter here in Nevada.

"We have created a monster," says TMCC political science professor Fred Lokken. "We only effected one leg of a three legged stool. Bureaucrats and lobbyists don't have any limits and we have inadvertently handed over the entire operation of our state to bureaucrats and lobbyists in Nevada who can be there for 30-40 years but elected officials get turned out like clockwork."

He uses the example of the late State Senator Bill Raggio who was around as long as the lobbyists and the bureaucrats and was able to accomplish a lot in spite of them.

As for Ward #5 in Reno there are just 3 candidates running.

Neoma Jardon  has 20 years experience in business administration. She also has quite a list of supporters including Mayor Bob Cashell and District Attorney Dick Gammick. She says her background will be instrumental in making the though decisions they city is face with. www.neoma4reno.com

Kitty Jung has served on the Washoe County Commission for 6 years and says she would be the only candidate with the experience to hit the ground running for the city of Reno. She's concerned about the city's bond debt and seeing more cooperation between the city and the county. www.kittyjung.org

And Kirby Lampley is retired from the state of Nevada and the U.S. Navy. He's concerned about creating more jobs, seeing reasonable growth and re-investigating star bonds...and what they are actually doing for this area. www.kirbylampley.com
