From the Bureau of Land Management:

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Tuscarora Field Office announces the release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Rodeo Creek Gold's (RCG) proposed Hollister Underground Mine Project for a 45-day public comment period.  Comments on the Draft EIS are due to the BLM Tuscarora Field Office by close of business July 16, 2012

Two public meetings are scheduled, with other meetings to be identified within the public comment period. Currently scheduled are:

  • The BLM Office in Elko on June 27 at 5 p.m. The office is located at 3900 E. Idaho St.
  • The BLM Office in Battle Mountain on June 26 at 5 p.m. The office is located at 50 Bastian Rd.

The Hollister Underground Mine Project is located approximately 47 miles northwest of Elko and 64 miles northeast of Winnemucca in Elko County.  This project is located at the old Ivanhoe or Hollister open-pit mine site.  At full production, RCG expects to employ an estimated 200 individuals.

The proposed project consists of transitioning the existing underground exploration project into an underground gold and silver mining operation.  The proposal includes a total of approximately 222 acres of surface disturbance on both private and public land, which includes approximately 117 acres of proposed new surface disturbance.  Existing facilities, such as the portal, water treatment facilities, rapid infiltration basins, waste-rock storage facility, and shop would be utilized.  Proposed facilities include the Hatter production shaft, road improvements, the construction of 11.6 miles of electric power transmission lines, continued surface and underground exploration, water removal of up to 1,100 gallons per minute, the discharge of water into Little Antelope Creek, and construction of ancillary facilities.

Copies of the Draft EIS are available at the BLM Elko District Office and also online at the BLM Elko District Web site address:  www.blm.gov/rv5c
