It's hard to miss. The bright red truck traveling through every corner of the Truckee Meadows. Bringing fresh, local food to your neighborhood. It's the Dish Truck. Joe Horn is the owner. "We are kind of like artesian sandwiches. So all of our sandwiches are pretty cool sandwiches. They are probably the best in each genre that we do."
Especially the Cowgirl which Dish is famous for. That's right - the sandwich was featured on the Food Network. They also have lamb, carnitas and the good 'ol grilled cheese.
About half of the menu is specific to the truck. Same fresh, local ingredients as Dish, but different recipes.
Food trucks have become more common here in northern Nevada. People, like Sara Toney, are getting used to the idea and liking it. "I think it's really fun. It's just a different way to enjoy food and the more our food culture progresses in Reno it's just better for everyone."
But the Dish Truck is unique. That's because most owners get a truck first then a restaurant. Joe, and wife Nancy, did it backwards. And the truck is actually bigger in some regards. "The kitchen in that truck is bigger than the kitchen at Dish so it's kind of funny because my wife says 'I've owned this business for 10 years, you go get a truck and now all of a sudden you have a bigger kitchen than me.'"
So how do you find the truck? It's on the road Tuesday through Saturday during lunch hours. The schedule is of course on Facebook. Social media is what links them to all of us hungry and stuck at work.
