The jury in the John Edwards campaign corruption trial reached a not guilty verdict on one of six counts, but was deadlocked on the five others.
The not guilty verdict was handed down for one count of violating campaign finance law after nine days of deliberations.
The jury was deadlocked on five other counts, including corruption. The judge in the case ruled a mistrial on those counts.
During his 2008 presidential bid by using donations from two wealthy donors to cover up an extramarital affair and the pregnancy of his mistress - Reille Hunter.
Edwards' attorneys told the jury the money used to support Hunter was never considered campaign contributions and argued just because Edwards was a bad husband, it doesn't mean he's guilty.
Edwards admits to the affair and fathering a now-4-year-old daughter with Hunter, but as a legal matter, he has always maintained his innocence.
