RENO, Nev.—Joe Martinez delivered a quality start, and the Aces offense took care of the rest Thursday night, as Reno earned a 7-4 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs in the series finale at Aces Ballpark.
After the Zephyrs put a run on the board in the top of the first, the Aces pushed across two in the home half of the frame, two more in the second and never trailed the rest of the way. The win sealed a series victory for Reno—its fourth of the season.
Martinez (2-3) collected his second-straight winning decision, scattering three runs on eight hits over 6.0 innings of work. After his exit, Sam Demel and Joe Paterson earned holds, before Jonathan Albaladejo slammed the door on his eighth save.
The loss fell to Zephyrs starter Brad Hand (3-3), who surrendered five runs on seven hits over six innings of work.
At the dish for Reno, Jake Elmore finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases. Adam Eaton singled, doubled, scored three times and drove in a run.
The Aces now hit the road for a four-game series against the Sacramento River Cats at Raley Field. In Friday's opener, RHP Charles Brewer (1-4, 7.20 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Sacramento will counter with RHP Travis Banwart (3-2, 5.59 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
