Escobar Homer Gives Nevada Walk-Off Victory at W.A.C. Tournament

MESA, Ariz. – University of Nevada (32-23) junior Carlos Escobar hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Wolf Pack a 4-3 victory over Louisiana Tech (24-27) in a first round Western Athletic Conference Tournament game at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz. Wednesday night.  With the victory the third seeded Pack will play second seed Sacramento State (29-26) on Thursday at 3 p.m. PT.  The Hornets earned a first round bye.

It was the first opening round WAC Tournament victory for the Pack since 2008 when the defeated San Jose State 11-0 in Ruston, La. 

Nevada trailed 1-0 and 3-1 before senior Joe Kohan tied the game with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the sixth.  Kohan also drove home the Pack's first run of the game with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second.

Pack ace Bradey Shipley (9-4) pitched his second complete game of the season to earn his ninth win of the year.  Shipley, the 2012 WAC Pitcher of the Year, allowed three runs on five hits and threw a career-high 138 pitches. 

Caleb Dudley (4-5) suffered the loss facing just Escobar in the ninth.  Dudley relieved Jeb Stefan in the ninth inning with a 3-1 count on Escobar.  After a called strike and a foul ball Escobar hit the 3-2 pitch over the left field fence.

Kohan (2-for-2,3RBI) collected two hits and drove in three runs for the Pack.  Five different Bulldog players had a hit for LA Tech.
