TRE Wildfire 7,152 Acres, 100% Contained

Sierra Front says the 7,152-acre wildfire burning in Topaz Ranch Estates is now fully contained as of Saturday evening.

Fire officials say the cooler temperatures and precipitation helped crews reached full containment Saturday. The fire will be monitored over the next few days to ensure that the fire perimeter remains extinguished. The current estimated cost to fight the fire is at $3.4 million.

Two homes and 17 outbuildings have been destroyed. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries have been reported.

The fire started around 2 p.m. Tuesday near Slate Road.

Douglas County deputies say a preliminary investigation indicates the fire was caused by a private residential open burn which exceeded the regulatory limitations and permit requirements, including the ignition of materials not allowed under the regulations.

The mutual investigation is continuing with the Nevada State Fire Marshall, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Bureau of Land Management.



Officials say to use extreme caution while recreating throughout the weekend. Very, high fire danger is a potential with the dry brush in the northern Sierra Mountain area. They say to please be responsible with campfires. Never leave it unattended and always ensure it is extinguished completely, cold to the touch.
