In the heart of downtown Carson City, sits a building from the 1800s that has a whole new lease on life. What was once a nightclub with a bad reputation, is now a brewery trying to shake that image. Jim Phalan is the new owner of High Sierra Brewing Company. "There's a term in the restaurant industry the ghosts of restaurants past. So a lot of people associate us with the previous owners and we are completely different. We are definitely family friendly, we have a kids menu, we brew our own root beer and orange soda, we do root beer floats. So it's a place for everyone to come to now."
It's Carson's only brewery. And now, it actually looks like one. Beer kegs, aspens, and antiques make it a cool, hip, and very clean restaurant. And it's huge. There's the main room.
The next room back has more tables and is a bit more quiet. There's even another banquet room before you get to the hot spot this summer.
The garden room has it's own bar and quaint backyard feel. "One of my bartenders put one of those meters and they did 11 miles in one day. Ya, it's huge."
The food is huge as well. The Western Burger is criss crossed with crispy bacon. And take a look at the award winning pizza. Instead of pizza sauce, it has spinach artichoke dip. Brilliant idea!
The beer won the community's choice award as well. Thousands of gallons are brewed every month by brewmaster Joe Renden. "We have a variety of beers for everybody. From a light blonde to a pretty heavy stout."
You can try all nine on tap with a flight of beers. Or you can pour your own at special keg tables. A fun way to sip and pour with a group of friends.
