The Nevada softball team lost a 3-0 lead in game two of a doubleheader and went on to lose 7-4 to BYU at Hixson Park on Saturday.
BYU (40-13, 15-4) won the first game 10-5 in five innings and took home the sweep while Nevada fell to 21-34 overall and 9-12 in the WAC.
Saturday marked the final home game for three Nevada seniors as Alex Arciniega, Mallary Darby and Kortnee Wiley were honored after the game. The seniors' careers are not over, however, as the Wolf Pack will be the fifth seed in next week's WAC Tournament in Las Cruces, N.M. Nevada will play fourth-seed San Jose State in the first round on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., Pacific.
In the second game Saturday, Nevada took an early lead when Sam Puzey belted an RBI double to score Karley Hopkins, who had also doubled.
In the third, Nevada went up 3-0 as Puzey blasted a two-run shot to center, her sixth of the year.
But BYU scraped together three in the fourth to tie it and then put two across in the fifth and the sixth and the game went to the bottom of the sixth with BYU leading 7-4.
Nevada putting the tying run at the plate in the sixth and came up empty. In the seventh, the Pack loaded the bases and put the go-ahead run at the plate but again came up empty.
Nevada had two costly errors in game one that led to three unearned runs as the Cougars took the run-rule win.
