Aces Lose to 51's 8-7

Aces Release
4/30/2012

RENO, Nev.—Adam Eaton homered and doubled twice for the Aces Monday night, but a solo home run by Las Vegas' Yan Gomes in the seventh inning unlocked a tie ballgame and lifted the 51s to an 8-7 victory over Reno in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.

The intrastate rivals traded blows throughout the night, with Reno taking an early lead, only to see Las Vegas fire back with a five-run fourth inning. The Aces rallied for three runs in the fifth to tie the score, but the 51s fired last, using Gomes' second homer of the season to take a one-run lead and the series-opening victory.

Aces reliever Sam Demel (0-2) surrendered the go-ahead home run and was pinned with the loss. Aces starter Tom Layne took a no decision, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 4.0 innings of work.

Las Vegas's Bobby Korecky (1-0)—who was Reno's closer in the 2009 season—earned the victory, tossing 1.2 scoreless frames out of the 51s' bullpen. Las Vegas starter Tim Redding allowed seven runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings.

At the dish for Reno, Eaton led the way with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Ryan Wheeler—the PCL's reigning Player of the Week—singled twice and drove in two runs, while Randy Ruiz stretched his hitting streak to 13 games.

The series continues on Tuesday night, with RHP Barry Enright (2-1, 1.75 ERA) getting the ball for Reno and LHP Aaron Laffey (0-3, 7.91 ERA) opposing for the 51s. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. PT, and it'll be another 2-for-$22 Tuesday, where fans can purchase two tickets, two hot dogs and two sodas for only $22.

Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
