In celebration of May being 'Older Americans Month,' several candidates running for local offices paid our senior citizens a visit at the Neil Road Recreation Center on Monday.
The candidates didn't give a presentation or even debate, it was just a simple Q&A session.
"Seniors are a very important constituency and they're very interested in the community and what's going on in their communities," said Patricia Lynch who is running for re-election for Reno Justice Of The Peace.
Wendy Alderman is running for Reno City Council District 4. She says seniors are concerned about losing their services.
"Some of the key issues are the quality of life for all our residents, whether it be the physical resources or the programming."
That's just a couple of the 40 local candidates who came out to discuss issues concerning senior citizens.
Some 265 people showed up and they had plenty of questions to ask.
"I think it's so important to actually come face-to-face, hand-to-hand with your candidate, look them starlight in the eyes and ask them pointed questions, such as 'is Reno actually looking at bankruptcy and what would you do about it?'" said Tony Yarbrough who attended the event.
Jill Andrea is concerned about Social Security.
"My main concern is our well being on Social Security. We depend on Social Security and Medicare for our medicine and doctors and I want to know how they feel about that."
Early voting in Washoe County runs almost two weeks from May 26th to June 8th with the primary election set for June 12th.
