Barry Enright turned out another quality start, but the Aces offense failed to cash-in on several occasions Sunday afternoon, as Reno fell to the Sacramento River Cats, 3-1, at Raley Field.
Behind Enright, the Aces took a 1-0 lead into seventh Sunday, before the River Cats pushed across two runs in the home half of the frame to take a lead they would not relinquish. Reno loaded the bases in the eighth, but couldn't convert, dropping their second-straight game to Sacramento.
Enright (1-1) was effective for the third-straight start, but was pinned with the hard-luck loss. The Aces right-hander allowed just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk over seven innings of work.
The victory went to Sacramento's Erick Threets (2-0), who worked two scoreless frames in relief of starter Travis Banwart. Merkin Valdez slammed the door in the ninth for the save, his second of the season.
At the plate for Reno, Evan Frey, Randy Ruiz and Ryan Wheeler collected two hits apiece. A fourth-inning sacrifice fly by Ryan Budde accounted for all of the Aces' offense on the day.
The Aces and River Cats will finish-up the four-game series on Monday night. RHP Chris Jakubauskas (1-1, 5.91 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while RHP Jarrod Parker (0-0, 3.00 ERA) counters for Sacramento. First pitch from Raley Field is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports 630 AM.
Reno returns home to Aces Ballpark on Saturday, April 21 to kick-off a four-game series. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
