If you ever went to Skyline Cafe, the first thing you'll notice that's different is the bar. It used to be off to the right. It's now a sleek concrete bar right as you enter.

In fact, most of the inside of this former restaurant has been transformed. Now, it's all about La Vecchia Varese. But this new location is just the latest in a long history of La Vech in Reno.  In 1990 it started down on West Street, where Beaujolais Bistro now stands. Then, in 1999, it moved to Moana and Virginia Street. And then construction. The RTC Street Widening Project forced owner Alberto Gozzola to move once again. And the latest home overlooks downtown Reno on Skyline Boulevard. "Perfect size, beautiful view, it's close to everything. So I pulled the trigger."

And he brought some things with him such as the lights, even the windows and the tables are made from the support beams at the old La Vecchia. He also brought some of the same old food. La Vecchia is known for it's raviolis. They are made fresh every day. Like the spinach ricotta raviolis with sage leaves fried in butter. Or how about the pumpkin raviolis with sausage.

And now that Alberto has a new location he's also adding to the menu a bit. "I added an authentic pizza, Italian pizza and there's even more that I want to do. A bar with small plates, can't open the patio soon enough. So a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new."

Speaking of the patio, Alberto cut it in half. You can still sit outside. Tables will be added when the weather warms up. But remember the covered part of the patio? Alberto enclosed it so we can all enjoy the views any time of year.

So whether you're a long time patron of La Vecchia Varese or if you haven't tried it yet, it will be a new experience the next time you check out this Reno favorite.
