Nevada Rally Falls Short

Trailing 6-2 the University of Nevada (16-4) baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning but left the bases loaded and fell 6-5 to Oregon State (19-11) at Peccole Park Monday afternoon.  The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 16-15 while the Beavers improved to 19-11.

 Nevada scored twice in the first inning but Oregon State got a three-run homer in the third to move in front to stay 3-2.  The Beavers added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to make the score 6-2. 

 Garrett Yrigoyen tripled home two runs in the eighth inning and Brooks Klein's single scored a third to close the gap to 6-5.  With the bases loaded third baseman Austin Byler struck out to end the inning and the Pack were retired in order in the ninth.

 Troy Marks (0-3) was tagged with the loss allowing three runs in five innings on the mound.  Taylor Starr (2-1) earned the victory giving up two runs on three hits in four innings of action.  Tony Bryant (6) recorded his sixth save of the season pitching the final 1.2 innings. 

 Tommy Niebergall (2-for-4,2R), Yrigoyen (2-for-3,R,2RBI), and Klein (2-for-4,2R,2RBI)  each had two hits for the Pack.  Yrigoyen and Klein drove in two apiece.

 OSU catcher Tyler Smith (3-for-4,R,3RBI) had two hits in the game.  Shortstop Tyler Smith (1-for-4,R,3RBI) hit a three run homer in the third inning.

 The two teams will play tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Peccole Park.
