NTSB to Release Air Race Safety Recommendations

Posted: Updated:

The National Transportation Safety Board is preparing safety recommendations for the Reno Championship Air Races following last year's deadly crash that killed 11 people and injured 70.

The NTSB has scheduled a news conference Tuesday in Reno to release its recommendations and provide an update on its investigation into September's P-51 crash that killed pilot Jimmy Leeward and 10 people on the ground.

Scores of people were seriously injured when the plane crashed near spectator seating at Reno Stead Airport.

Event organizers say this year's race will be held Sept. 12-16. Tickets are already being sold, but the Reno Air Racing Association still needs a waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration and a permit from the Airport Authority of Washoe County to stage the event. (AP)
