Spectator Injured in Reno Air Races Crash Sues

Posted: Updated:

A spectator injured in September's deadly crash at the Reno National Championship Air Races is suing organizers and the pilot.

Edward Larson's lawsuit, filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Reno, is the fourth after the crash in front of box seats killed 11 people and injured about 70.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/GNtYOT) that in his suit, Larson accuses organizers and P-15 Mustang pilot Jimmy Leeward of negligence and carelessness.

The 59-year-old Larson, a part-time Reno resident who lives in San Diego, says he was hospitalized after shrapnel from the souped-up plane cut into his head, back and legs.

Two other similar lawsuits are moving forward in U.S. District Court in Reno and one in Texas federal court. The defendants are working on their responses in the cases.
