Typically in Places 2 Check Out, I tell you all about the food. And that will be true for this place too. At the Cantina inside GSR, it's Mexican food with a twist. Gary Astemborski is the assistant executive chef. "We took some authentic favorites and gave them a twist of their own that we really put a lot of love into. Some funky traditional. Like I say our Cantina twist here at GSR."
A twist like the taquitos filled with chorizo, chicken and roasted peppers. Or the queso with broiled cheese on top and chili beans on the bottom.
But here at the Cantina, it's really not all about the food. As general manager, Anil Kumar explains, it's about the experience. "The whole idea of this place is entertainment. Once you leave here it's going to be sticking in your memory. Not because you had a margarita, but because the entertainment you had."
Every hour the waitresses dance after giving everyone free tequila shooters. The bartenders give a whole new meaning to a mixed drink. You can't take your eyes off their tricks. And then there's the barber chair. You sit there for your special occasion and do upside down margaritas.
The chefs say the Cantina is like you picked up Senor Frogs from Mexico and plopped it down in Reno. A fun place with good food that made sense at the GSR.
The Cantina is located inside GSR next to Charlie Palmers.
