Elko Officials Cautious About Development Plans

Posted: Updated:

Economic development officials in Elko County are being cautious about a plan pushed by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to regionalize economic development agencies.

The Elko Daily Free Press (http://bit.ly/xXPEit) reports the Elko County Economic Diversification Authority will discuss the governor's plan on Wednesday.

Authority executive director Pam Borda says the board will decide how to respond to the state's proposals, such as creation of a six-county regional economic development authority.

But Borda tells the newspaper she fears regional agencies would add a level of bureaucracy and restrict funding for smaller county economic development efforts.

Borda earlier told county commissioners there also is the question of whether counties can opt out, especially those that don't receive state money now. (AP)
