PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Nevada softball team got a big win with an 11-3 run-rule win over No. 8 Stanford in the Stanford Nike Invitational on Saturday at Smith Family Stadium Nevada fell in the second game of the doubleheader 8-2. The Wolf Pack will play in the consolation game on Sunday against the loser of Pacific and Bradley. If Nevada plays, Pacific, the game will be at 12:15 p.m. If Nevada plays Bradley, the game will be at 10 a.m. and will be carried live on 1450 AM. Nevada is now 2-7 on the year. The Wolf Pack jumped out early with four runs in the top of the second inning. Megan Fincher singled and stole second before the Pack loaded the bases as Sara Parsons was hit by a pitch and Kortnee Wiley reached on a fielder's choice.

Chelsea Barilli then drew a four-pitch walk to score Fincher. Karley Hopkins then drove in a run with a groundball. Leading 2-0, Nevada pushed it to a four-run lead when Lauren Lastrapes drilled a two-run single.

Stanford got one back in the third to make it 4-1 but Nevada opened the floodgates in the fourth with seven runs.

The Wolf Pack batted around in the frame and Barilli was the catalyst. She doubled to lead off the inning and tripled to cap the scoring. In between were four other Nevada hits and two Stanford errors. Mallary Darby went the distance for Nevada, scattering eight hits and giving up three runs while walking one and striking out three. Lastrapes, Fincher, Campbell and Barilli each had two hits in the game for Nevada with Lastrapes and Barilli each driving in two.

In game two, Stanford jumped out to a four run lead off of Nevada starter Karlyn Jones as the Cardinal got one in the first and then three in the second. The Wolf Pack got a run back in the third as Lauren Lastrapes blasted a solo shot to left to make it 4-1. Stanford answered with two runs in the fourth, which came off of Ariel Craig, who relieved Karlyn Jones. Nevada came right back in the top of the fifth inning with three straight singles to score one run (Hopkins with the RBI) and put runners on second and third after a sac bunt by Caylin Campbell. But Lastrapes struck out and Sam Puzey grounded out on a ball hit off the pitcher Gearhart and deflected directly to the shortstop Ashley Hanson who got Puzey by step at first. Stanford added two more on a triple by Caitlyn Pura in the bottom of the fifth.
