Washoe County is facing a projected budget deficit of $16.8 million dollars for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. Earlier this week, the Board of Commissioners approved a three-part plan to handle the gap.
It includes cutting $9.9 million through negotiated labor savings or department reductions.
The plan also includes $3.6 million in reduced capital projects and contingency funding and $3.3 million in retiree health benefits.
The board is now developing two plans to fill the shortfall and plan to present those options in April. The commission will make final budget decisions in May.
