Fuel Reduction Project in Caughlin Fire Burn Area

Posted: Updated:

In the days ahead you may see some crews working to cut down fire risks in the Truckee Meadows.

Today through Sunday crews will be using herbicide in the Caughlin Fire burn area to reduce cheatgrass growth. The Meadowridge Hazardous Fuels Reduction project is located approximately 5 miles south of Reno near the intersection of South McCarran Blvd. and Lakeside Drive on 6.5 acres of private property.

Then Monday through Wednesday there will be a controlled burn at Davis Creek Park to cut down on the risk of fire for residents in west Washoe Valley.

Authorities say an arcing power line caused the November 18th fire. It destroyed dozens of homes, damaged several others and blackened 3,000 acres in south Reno.
