Verdi Postal Customers See Improved Access

Posted: Updated:

From the U.S. Postal Service:

Verdi postal customers should begin to see an improved and more convenient access to their mail.

The Christmas Day fire that destroyed the Verdi Post Office has interrupted normal mail delivery options. The nearest available delivery office was the North Reno, Peavine Station. For more than a month, customers have been calling for their mail through an interior side door at the Peavine office.

The Postal Service is happy to announce that some of the inconvenience of retrieving their mail will be improved with the installation of portable Post Office boxes inside the Peavine lobby.

"These will provide our customers with round-the-clock access to their mail," said Postal Spokesman David Rupert. "Each box will have its own key and be secured."

Customers will be issued keys and mail will be delivered to the boxes by Saturday.

Reestablishing a retail presence may take several months, according to Rupert. The Postal Service is awaiting a final determination regarding the property before finalizing the long-term plans.

"It is our desire to restore a retail presence in Verdi as soon as possible," he said. "And it is our hope that the administrative functions surrounding the facility reconstruction will go smoothly and quickly for everyone's sake."

"I am so appreciative for everyone's patience as we work to restore our service," said Verdi Postmaster Marjorie Grizzle. "It's been hard on all of us, but I look forward to putting all of this behind us soon."
