On that hip little street just north of Moana off Lakeside, sits a slew of unique, locally owned shops. And now, you can add Swill Coffee and Wine to that list.
It used to be home to Fairly Grounded Coffee, but when it closed, Monica Grashuis, who owns a tutoring company upstairs couldn't stand to see it shuttered. "Because I'm tired of all the black holes and empty spaces in Reno and I think it's a great time to open a business that's based on local trade."
That's exactly what Monica offers here at Swill. "Pathways at UNR makes all our soups and wraps and 5th Street Bakehouse makes all our sandwiches and baked goods. So a lot of small local businesses. Snelly's Flower Power makes our biscotti. The coffee is roasted by Mark Trajillo of the Hub. He just opened a roastery behind Lincoln Lounge. He trained all our baristas so the coffee is incredible."
It's not just the coffee and food that's incredible at Swill. Every Friday night there's live music, groups can meet in the lounge for free, the artwork on the walls is by local artists and it's all for sale. Monica recently brought in a group of lecturing scientists and Reno Drum Circle is here a couple times a month banging on the bongos.
Think Berkeley cafe on a small groovy street in Reno.
Swill is located at 3366 Lakeside Drive next to the Made in Nevada shop. For more information, call (775) 823-9876 or go online to www.swillreno.com
Also, Swill has an express bar so if you're in a hurry, you can grab a cup of coffee, throw your money in a jar and be out the door a minute later.
