Hispanic Group Leader Endorses Romney

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The president of one of Nevada's most prominent Hispanic groups is endorsing Republican Mitt Romney for president.

Latin Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Otto Merida tells The Associated Press Thursday that Romney is the best candidate to fix Nevada's struggling economy.

Merida is Cuban and says he disagrees with Romney's stance on immigration, but believes the former Massachusetts governor can create the most jobs for Nevadans.

He says he plans to work with Romney's campaign to announce other endorsements from Hispanic leaders following Saturday's GOP caucus.

The chamber is the state's major Hispanic economic group. The endorsement comes as contenders Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich have all been courting Hispanic voters with events this week in Las Vegas.
