Last week the permit for Occupy Reno protesters expired at Moana Pool. Now, some supporters of the movement are rallying elsewhere. Thursday, it was on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
Organizers of the event say they gathered on the campus to provide a forum to discuss the issues affecting their day-to-day lives.
One particular worry they cited is trying to prevent corporations from being recognized as people in the Silver State.
The president of the Occupy Reno club at UNR says corporate influence in politics is too strong. "They pay off our elected officials, our representatives don't represent us in Congress, our President doesn't represent us. They make laws that don't help or protect citizens, only help protect the corporate aristocracy and that's something that we'd like to bring down," Joseph Holsworth said.
The Occupy Reno group tells us it has submitted a petition to the city council to try and remove corporate personhood in Reno, but has had little success so far.
