A Nevada Guardsman is returning to action after being wounded during September's Carson City IHOP shooting that killed four and injured seven others.

Now, more than four months after that tragedy, Sgt. 1st Class Jeremiah Mock officially re-enlisted into the Army National Guard. It was a big day, not only for the Mock family, but also the National Guard.

He says after months of healing, he's happy to be back.

"I look forward to serving the people of Nevada and proudly be a member of the National Guard."

Sgt. 1st Class Mock stood on the steps of the capitol building, as Gov. Sandoval administered the oath of enlistment. A small gathering of state officials and fellow Guard members were in attendance, welcoming back one of their own.

His wife was also there, Staff Sgt. Stephanie Mock. She enlisted in the Nevada Air National Guard shortly after the shooting, and says she couldn't be more proud of her husband.

"We've been through so much and he's still so strong," she says. "I love him more everyday if it's possible."

The governor says it's remarkable how fast Sgt. 1st Class Mock returned, showing a true commitment to the National Guard and the Silver State.

"Makes me proud to be a Nevadan and we're very fortunate and blessed to have a young man like him."

The National Guard says any re-enlistment is special, but this one was certainly unique.

"I've never seen a re-enlistment ceremony where the governor, the commander-in-chief of the National Guard, actually administer the oath of enlistment," says Maj. April Conway. "So, that was really neat."

Sgt. 1st Class Mock says the community still has some healing ahead, but things are looking up.

"The community is on its way forward," he says. "We are getting past it, and we won't forget the ones that we lost."
