At first glance, it looks like you've entered a family owned and operated winery in the Napa Valley. A single bar with tables and boxes of wine as the backdrop. Except, here at Craft in the ever evolving Midtown neighborhood of Reno, it's not just wine. It's also beer and even spirits. In fact, Craft is in a category all its own. Owner Ty Martin explains, "We are a bottle shop. So we sell wine, beer and spirits and we have an on premises license so you can drink wine or beer here."
Ty opened Craft Wine and Beer just over a year ago. He wanted to support Midtown and found this brick building on Martin Street. The concept is fairly new to our area. It's a bar and a shop. The ambience is meant to reflect a hip hangout. A place you want to stop by after work for a drink. And the shopping experience is meant to introduce you to wineries and breweries you've never heard of before. "Most of our selection is from small producers. Small farmers who are actually working the land as far as the wines go. And the beer, small brewers from all over the world."
You think your fridge is full of beer? Ty has nearly 400 different kinds. Many are Scandinavia and Belgian and he treats them like his children. "All the beers are handled perfectly. They never see sunlight. No fluorescent lights which produce ultra violet and we keep it nice and cool in here so that when you get it you can drink it exactly the way it was intended."
Whether you're a connoisseur of beer and wine or new to the whole bar scene, Craft is meant to offer a great experience for everyone.
