Community Fund for Washoe Drive Fire Rehabilitation

Posted: Updated:

Press Release from the Community Foundation of Western Nevada:

Washoe State Park, public lands, and wildlife habitat burned by the Washoe Fire are devastated and will need extensive rehabilitation and restoration. The Community Foundation of Western Nevada is serving as a collection point for community contributions. 100% of funds collected will be granted to local nonprofit agencies to buy trees and shrubs and planting materials, as well as organize volunteers and stage a rehabilitation effort this spring.

Chris Askin, CEO of the Community Foundation, said at the Foundation's emergency response Program Committee meeting, "When the smoke clears, we are well positioned to serve as a collection point for disasters of this nature that affect the entire community in some way." The Community Foundation was instrumental in collecting funds to help with the restoration efforts after the Hawkins Fire in 2007 and the Fernley flood in 2008.

To contribute a tax deductible donation for the Washoe Fire Fund, donate online by credit card at www.nevadafund.org or send a check to:
