Fundraisers and Resources for Washoe Drive Fire Victims

The Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center is acting as an evacuation center for horses. It can house up to 400 horses in the stables on the east side of the Reno Rodeo Grounds. Officials say to enter along Sutro Street at Gate 6. For information, please call (775) 688-5751.

The Tuff Luck Ranch in Dayton is offering their ranch as another area to evacuate livestock. The ranch is at 175 River Road in Dayton. For more information, call (775) 691-6096.

The Shady Glen Ranch is offering their space for horse, cats, dogs and motor homes. For details, call (775) 463-9077.

The Feline rescue of Northern Nevada is offering free cat boarding, call Susan at (775) 544-4475. Devon Riley is taking in dogs, call her at (775) 247-8338. There is also free dog boarding with Sabrina from Bre's Bed and Biscuits, call (775) 722-0220.

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's Living with Fire program is encouraging residents in the area of the Washoe Drive to take extra precautions to prepare their families and homes in case they are asked to evacuate their neighborhoods.

Residents who have already been asked to evacuate can also get quick information at http://www.livingwithfire.info. Click on the "during the fire" tab at the top right on the home page.

Several flights were canceled or diverted on Thursday. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport says to call your airline for the latest.

Several hotel-casinos are offering their rooms for displaced residents at a low rate. The Eldorado Hotel Casino is offering their rooms for $29. Free rooms are offered for those who lost their home to the fire. Call 1-800-879-8879 to make a reservation.

The Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is also offering $29 rooms. You can call 1-800-723-6500.

The Peppermill Resort Spa Casino is offering rooms for $29. They say they are waiving the resort fee and allowing pets. Call 775-856-1000.

John Ascuaga's Nugget's rooms are $25. They say to call 775-356-3300 or to just come in.

The Club Cal Neva is offering free rooms to those affected by the fire. In order to receive a free room, guests must have valid identification that shows they live in the 89511 zip code. Carson City residents who wish to stay in Reno tonight and not have to brave the drive home are being offered a $15.00 hotel room rate. However, this rate is only in effect until US 395 reopens. Guests may call the Club Cal Neva Hotel to book their room at 775-323-1046 or they may walk-in.

The Boomtown Hotel and Casino is offering a $29 room rate. Call 1-877-726-6686. The Circus-Circus Hotel and Casino's rooms are $19. Just call 328-0711 and mention the code RFIRE or come up to the Front Desk with the same code.

The Grand Sierra Resort will offer $25 rooms for all evacuees. For more information please call 775-789-2000.

The Western Village Inn and Casino is offering rooms for $19. Pet friendly rooms are available. 1-800-648-1170.

The Harrah's Reno is offering $29 rates for victims. They are a pet friendly hotel. Call 1-800-223-7277.

Fernley RV Park on West Main Street in Fernley is also offering free stays for victims. If you live in the 89511, 89521 or 89704 zip codes, site rent is free. The RV Park is located at 550 West Main Street and can accommodate more than 20 RVs with full hookups. They have bathrooms and showers on site, along with basic cable and free Wi-Fi hookups. Neil Dement, the owner of NDI Plumbing in Reno is offering free help to any evacuated homeowner or homeowners without power worried about their pipes in this cold weather. If you need help, just call the NDI Office at (775) 745-8791. Dement also recommends a few things to keep your pipes from freezing. You can run your water at a slow drizzle if the power's out. You can also pour food-grade anti-freeze in the sinks and toilets to prevent a problem.

Thank you to McDonald's. The Kietzke Lane location has partnered with the American Red Cross to donate about 500 breakfasts to local firefighters. Friday, the restaurant also plans to donate 200 quarter pounder with cheese meals that will be distributed to firefighters stationed at a local elementary school. This donation comes just after Reno-Tahoe area restaurants gave the Metzker family an $8,000 check from a fundraiser hosted in November. Several McDonald's restaurants also served their local community by donating food and drinks to firefighters and public safety officers during the Caughlin Fire on November 18th, 2011.

Postal Cafe at 3115 Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe Valley is offering a discount for victims of the Washoe Drive Fire. They will be offering 25% off of breakfast and lunch until the end of February to people who lost their homes in the fire.

Fundraisers Benefiting Washoe Drive Fire Victims:

A local salon is looking to help the victims of the Washoe Drive Fire with a cut-a-thon this Sunday. Sunday, January 29th from noon to 4pm, Amethyst Salon on California Avenue is offering free haircuts, eyebrow waxing and mini manicures. They'll also have a raffle and cupcake sale. All the money will go to victims of the Washoe Drive Fire. Amethyst Salon is located at 190 California Avenue above Blue Moon Pizza. You're encouraged to just show up and donate as you can.

Washoe State Park, public lands, and wildlife habitat burned by the Washoe Fire are devastated and will need extensive rehabilitation and restoration. The Community Foundation of Western Nevada is serving as a collection point for community contributions. 100% of funds collected will be granted to local nonprofit agencies to buy trees and shrubs and planting materials, as well as organize volunteers and stage a rehabilitation effort this spring.

Chris Askin, CEO of the Community Foundation, said at the Foundation's emergency response Program Committee meeting, "When the smoke clears, we are well positioned to serve as a collection point for disasters of this nature that affect the entire community in some way." The Community Foundation was instrumental in collecting funds to help with the restoration efforts after the Hawkins Fire in 2007 and the Fernley flood in 2008.
