Carano is a famous name here in the Biggest Little City, but now one Carano is making an even bigger name for herself. Gina Carano, daughter of Silver Legacy marketing director, Glenn Carano, is starring in a major motion picture that's opening across the country this month.

We sat down with Glenn Carano to find out how he feels about his daughter making her mark in Hollywood. He said he's very proud of her for working hard and making it on her own.

Her new career in Hollywood means walks down the red carpet, and getting to work with very famous actors. Carano stars in Haywire alongside big-name actors like Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum and Ewan McGregor.

Carano snagged the female lead partly because of her skills as a mixed martial arts fighter.  Her dad, Glenn Carano is trying to take it all in, and just returned from the Hollywood premier of the film, where he watched Gina walk down the red carpet with her co-stars.

"I got a chance to introduce myself to the actors like Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum," he said.

The Caranos are famous for their casinos here in Reno, but were not as well known in LA.

"Once they found out I was Gina's dad, they were like, ‘Wow, she's the best.' They loved working with her and they loved how hard she worked," said her dad.

Of course Glenn Carano is no stranger to hard work or the spotlight. He played professional football with the Dallas Cowboys. He remembers training hard to be the best he could be.

"I consider myself a good athlete, but not the best athlete on the field so I had to work hard," he said.

That's something Glen has tried to pass along to Gina, who grew up here in Reno. After high school and college, she took up mixed martial arts, starting small and training hard. She turned that talent into small movie roles, and now the big time.

Carano does her own stunts in Haywire, which her dad says brought a certain energy to the picture.

"She couldn't believe how excited the stars were to work with her. They take a look at Gina and say 'She's the real deal.' When they come to the screen and say 'hey, I'm not working with some stunt actress who can't throw a punch, I'm dealing with someone who can.'"

Glenn Carano says he is extremely proud of his daughter.

"She's a very accomplished athlete, and to have her take it to the next step into the movies is incredible. You only dream of that," he said.

Haywire opens across the country on January 20th.
