The Nevada Highway Patrol paid tribute Friday to those who risked their lives on the day of the deadly IHOP shooting.

In Carson City, three troopers, a sergeant and a lieutenant received commendation medals for arriving on scene minutes after the September 6th shooting. They helped the injured and set up a perimeter around the restaurant.

Some of those who were honored said they were just doing their jobs and relied on fellow law enforcement for help. "We train for these sorts of things. You hope they never happen but sadly this did occur and we responded the way we did and I think I'm very proud of the people I work with and I'm very proud of my agency," says Trooper Sean Giurlani.

Three dispatchers were also recognized for their calm demeanor during the tragedy.

Eduardo Sencion opened fire in the parking lot with an assault rifle before storming inside IHOP. Five people, including Sencion, were killed.
