The Nevada Highway Patrol will honor some of their personnel Friday for their efforts during the Carson City IHOP shooting.
Three troopers, a sergeant and a lieutenant will be awarded commendation medals for rushing to the scene just minutes after the shots rang out -- helping the wounded, securing the perimeter and closing nearby roads.
Three dispatchers will also be honored for staying calm and professional while relaying information to and from the scene.
This event is now open to the public. If you'd like to attend it's at 1pm at the Department of Public Safety's Division of Emergency Management Building at 2478 Fairview Drive in Carson City.
On September 6th, Eduardo Sencion opened fire in the parking lot with an assault rifle before storming the IHOP. Five people, including Sencion, were killed.
