Children at Huffaker Elementary School in Reno honored firefighters for their help during last month's devastating Caughlin Fire.

The students held an assembly Tuesday afternoon where they thanked firefighters from the Reno Fire Department, Sparks Fire Department, Sierra Fire Protection District and the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.

School administrators say learning about how members of our community are helping others will help students to be more compassionate. "It's just another model or example for them to see that what we're doing at school that will carry on even after they leave the school doors," says Huffaker Principal Susan Novelli.

And other schools in our community are helping the victims of the Caughlin Fire.

For example, students at Spanish Springs Elementary are selling t-shirts and sweatshirts they designed themselves to help Caughlin Fire victims.

T-shirts cost $11 and sweatshirts are $15. To order them just call the elementary school at (775) 425-7710.
