316 Broadway.
That's the new address of a non-profit aimed at helping, well, anyone who needs it.
The building is getting some repair work now. And it sits virtually empty -- aside from shelving and a little furniture.
But Darlene Fox doesn't see that... Instead, she envisions this... "Canned food, boxed food, whatever you think that can go on a shelf."
"We're not finished here yet, but we're going to put up some special racking and shelves for new clothes and shoes. Umm, toiletry items here, whatever you can think of, like underarm deodorant, tooth paste."
Darlene is opening a non-profit off Wells Avenue you might consider "one stop shopping" for the less fortunate called "Angels in the Community."
"We decided to come together and open up a new place with a new concept of food, new clothes, new shoes, accessories, books."
Even medical supplies. All new, but all donated.
And businesses are already jumping on board.
Everything, including the workspace was given to Darlene. "You know, when you believe in what you're doing and God goes before you - he supplies it."
Once open, Darlene says anyone in need can come in and she will do her best to supply them with whatever they need even if it's just a comfortable place to get out of the cold.
She came up with the idea two years ago, after losing her job. And having needed help in the past, this mother of four felt called to take action. "God put it on my heart to get out there and do something for the community. As a single parent and struggling for so many years, it's necessary to give back."
And, again, she hopes to eventually help anyone who needs it - no questions asked, no strings attached. "There's no great criteria, we're here to help all God's people."
Darlene hopes to open "Angels in the Community" mid-January. But she still needs help with first year operational expenses. To make a donation, call 443-6701.
