KTVN Channel 2 - Reno Tahoe News Weather, Video - 2 Nevada Players Named WAC Players of Week

From the Western Athletic Conference:

Nevada quarterback Tyler Lantrip, Utah State linebacker Kyle Gallagher and Nevada punter/kicker Jake Hurst were named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively. 

Lantrip, a senior from Roseville, Calif. (Jesuit HS), completed 24-of-31 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in Nevada's 56-3 win over Idaho.  In just his fifth start of his career, Lantrip hit Aaron Bradley on touchdown passes of 63, 15 and 22 yards and added a fourth touchdown pass to Tray Session from 28 yards out.  His performance moved him to the top of the WAC's passing efficiency rankings. 

Gallagher, a senior from Woodland, Calif. (Woodland HS), made five tackles and his first career interception in the 24-21 win at New Mexico State that gave Utah State seven regular season wins for the first time since 1979.  With Utah State up 14-7 near the end of the first half, Gallagher intercepted a pass on a third-and-goal from the one-yard line to preserve the lead at the intermission.  Gallagher was playing with a heavily bandaged broken left hand.

Hurst, a senior from Twain Harte, Calif. (Modesto JC), punted three times for a 43.3-yard average and was also perfect on all eight of his extra point attempts in the win over Idaho.  Hurst finished the regular season 21-of-21 on his PATs and his eight extra points are the second most by a WAC kicker this year. 

Others nominated on offense: sophomore quarterback Derek Carr, Fresno State; and junior quarterback Adam Kennedy, Utah State. 

Also nominated on defense: senior linebacker James-Michael Johnson, Nevada.

Other special teams nominations included: sophomore placekicker Josh Thompson, Utah State.
