What do burners want for Christmas? Tickets to this year's Burning Man Festival. And luckily they went on sale today, just in time for the holidays.
But this year they're being sold through a lottery. And the first 3,000 are going for $420 a piece.
"It sounds high but burners are willing to pay that," said Eric Baron, owner of The Melting Pot, which for 14 years was the only ticket outlet in Reno.
Last year was the first year that festival sold out and they are expecting it to sell out again this year. The BLM is insisting festival organizers cap the sales at 56,000. The lottery system is expected to help them keep tabs on the sales.
So 3,000 tickets are up for grabs now and over the next few months 40,000 more will be sold through various lotteries at prices ranging from $240 to $390 a piece.
In March, 10,000 will be put up for an open sale and sold until they are sold out.
