The Caughlin Fire is out but the cleanup for homes damaged in that blaze is just beginning.
In all officials are reporting 32 homes burned to the ground in that devastating fire last week. And experts are estimating as many as 400 homes were damaged by heat, smoke and soot.
"We're seeing melted windows and cracked windows in homes adjacent to the homes that burned down," says Rob Carpenter of Servpro a professional cleaning company serving the area. "With winds like we had, soot gets into the cracks and crevices and it's acidic and cause a lot of problems with appliances and paint."
Servpro has cleaned about 50 homes so far and has another 50 on its list. And it's just one of a handful of companies here cleaning. In all they estimate as many as 400 homes will need work. They say the clean-ups average between a few days to a week and the cost so far is ranging between $12,000 and $24,000 depending on the damage and the size of the home.
