President Obama continued pushing his American Jobs Act bill today at Eastfield College in Texas.
"So my message to Congress is don't just talk about helping job creators - actually help job creators by passing this (jobs) bill."
The Obama plan is another stimulus plan to use government money to fund creating jobs. Speaker John Boehner's plan is focused on less government regulation and no government money.
And small businesses we talked with say stimulus money is just a temporary fix. Like at Kimmie Candy in east Reno. "We've probably increased staff by 20% this year," says President and CEO Joseph Dutra.
That's right they've hired employees to meet demand. Something a tax credit just wouldn't entice them to do. "We don't hire anyone for a tax credit. It's irrelevant to us..what we need more is money to increase our equipment base."
And not far away but in a completely different type of business, Thomas Bouthilier agrees tax credits aren't the answer.
So Obama wants to bring in stimulus money and add jobs - Boehner wants to cut regulation which would work better for you asks Erin Breen.
"Just stay out of our way and let us do what we do. Try to give us stimulus money or tax credits doesn't work. If I don't have work I won't hire regardless of a tax credit."
In fact, Bouthilier points to the now-bankrupt Solyndra Solar Panel Factory that the Obama Administration touted as helping to fund as an example of government trying to help business. "The government got involved trying to build an industry they spent a billion dollars and hired 1,500 people for a year....now they're bankrupt!"
"The president doesn't understand how business creates jobs. He just has no business experience," says UNR economics professor Brad Schiller.
Meantime, TNB Enterprises continues to build on demand.
And Kimmie Candy is seeing sweet success as well. "Now we're supporting 25 families and that money stays local to help the community," says Dutra.
But expect to hear more from both President Obama and Speaker John Boehner as the debate over putting America back to work continues.
The other thing small businesses say they need is credit to be able to expand.
Erin will take a look at that issue later this week.
