Remember Austin's in south Reno? Well now, it's Jacks. And while the location is new, the menu certainly is not. A man by the name of Jack Aycock opened the first Jack's on Prater Way back in 1985. A year later he opened another one on Victorian Avenue. In 2006, Ana and Phelipe Estrada bought Jack's. And just this April expanded to south Reno in the Longley West Plaza. "We just liked the area. We wanted to be on the south side. The building is really nice. It's really big. We have two rooms that can be for meetings," says Ana.
And the food matches the building. It's big. The most popular thing on the menu? Chicken fried steak. They pound chicken breasts and then dredge them in a secret dipping sauce. Eryne Dyer has worked at Jack's as a waitress for two years. "People go for different crusts on the steak and we've managed to be original somehow."
The Belgian waffle comes topped with freshly cut strawberries and plenty of whipped cream to coat every bite. And the Cobb salad is heaped with chicken, egg, cheese and avocado.
But the best part about Jack's menu is you can get anything you want anytime of day. "We have everything on the menu from breakfast to lunch, salads, wraps and you can order them any time during the day," says Ana.
There are plans to expand again in the future. But for now, they're focusing on their motto: Great food. Great people.
And if you want to go check out Jack's, next Tuesday and Wednesday is the perfect time. They are having a fundraiser for a 9-month-old girl with leukemia. If you go to Jack's on October 4th and 5th between 6-11am and order pancakes, Jack's will donate $2 per order to her family.
Jack's in Reno is located at 7671 South Virginia Street. For more information call 775-284-3929. You can also check out the menu online at www.jackscafesparks.com
