New millennium building systems just celebrated the grand opening of its new steel plant in Fallon.

The initial meetings were over a year ago and now-- the company behind it all says they're looking forward to making their new home on the west coast. "This was an opportunity to make a national footprint. To service the west side of the country just like we do the east," says plant general manager Chris Graham.

When the Fallon steel plant owned by the Commercial Metals Company closed its doors early last year-- it put nearly 100 people out of work in Churchill County.

But after more than a year of meetings and negotiations, and finding a new owner the plant is back up and running and hiring.

The New Millennium Plant in Fallon makes steel building supports called joists. And as the construction market improves, they say they plan to have a full staff of as many as 200 people.

And that's good news for Churchill County - officials say 200 people, in a county with less than 30,000 residents makes a huge difference. "It's part of team Nevada, you know, economic development. Trying to promote team Nevada, trying to land companies in Nevada, and this is one of those. So we're just happy to see it happen," says Eric Grimes of Churchill County Development.

Along with the Fallon plant, Steel Dynamics, which is the parent company of New Millennium also bought two other plants from CMC - one in Hope, Arkansas, and one in Juarez, Mexico.
