Nevada Chukar Hunters in For Good Season

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- State wildlife officials say a wet winter means chukar hunters in Nevada can look forward to an excellent season this fall.

Some of the best hunting should be in Pershing County. Upland game biologist Shawn Espinosa says they've observed record densities of birds in the Sonoma and Selenite Ranges, as well as the Lava Beds.

Good to excellent conditions also are forecast in central Nevada, including Churchill, northern Nye, southern Lander and Eureka counties.

Espinosa says parts of Washoe County also continue to harbor above average numbers of birds.

Mostly average opportunities are expected in Humboldt County where the most chukar hunting occurs.

Espinosa says while there's lot of birds, hunters may have to go further off the beaten trail because the good habitat has helped better distribute populations.
