Affidavit: Family Told Police of IHOP Shooter's Illness

Posted: Updated:

A court filing shows that a family member quickly told investigators the man who opened fire with an AK-47 at a Carson City pancake restaurant last week had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic.

Douglas County sheriff's Sgt. Mark Munoz told Carson City Justice of the Peace Tom Armstrong that Eduardo Sencion's sister-in-law told investigators that he had been taking medication for his illness.

The Nevada Appeal reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/o4jmgQ) that recordings of the oral affidavit were unsealed Monday.

Five people were killed, including Sencion and three Nevada National Guard members. Seven people were wounded when authorities say Sencion opened fire at an IHOP restaurant not far from the Nevada Capitol.

Douglas County investigators contacted family members after tracing ownership of the 2002 Chrysler minivan Sencion drove to the IHOP.
