A man is in custody after a chase through the Truckee Meadows involving Reno Police and Highway Patrol Troopers.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say the chase began in Stead when 32-year-old Mariusz Debski was spotted driving erratically; it ended at the intersection of Mt. Rose Highway and Wedge Parkway in south Reno.

Troopers say Debski originally hit another vehicle near Parr Boulevard and kept going.

The chase continued to south Reno where troopers put down several spike strips.

That knocked out three of the car's tires, but Debski kept going until troopers used two patrol cars and a truck to force the car to a stop.

Troopers say Debski did not respond to verbal commands. But when they broke out the window of the car, he accelerated forward, so they tased him.

Debski was taken to the hospital for tests after paramedics found he had low blood sugar.

Troopers say they're not sure if a medical condition was behind the incident.

Debski was booked into the Washoe County Jail on the following charges:

  • Hit and Run Accident (misdemeanor)
  • Failing to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle (gross misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving (gross misdemeanor)

His total bail was just under $4,000 dollars.

The only officer injured in the event was a Reno police officer who sustained minor facial cuts  from glass debris.
