An El Dorado County deputy says the body found at Lake Tahoe Monday may be a diver who was reported missing 17 years ago.
El Dorado County sheriff's Lt. Bryan Golmitz says another diver found the body submerged in 265 feet of water off Rubicon Point on Lake Tahoe's west shore and alerted authorities.
The body, clothed in diving gear, was recovered by a robotic device last week and taken to Sacramento where an autopsy was performed.
Golmitz on Tuesday said dental records will be used to make positive identification.
He says given the 35 degree water temperature, the body was well preserved. He adds that the diver's air tank was certified in the early 1990s.
